Sensor Malfunction
Sensor malfunctions are most often caused when a sensor has trouble communicating with the control panel due to a wireless range issue.
- Try relocating the sensor closer to the panel.
- Make sure the control panel and sensor are not separated by metal.
- Try changing the plane of the sensor's wireless communication with the panel by rotating the sensor 90 degrees.
- Replace the batteries as they may have been depleted.
- Another cause may be recently changed the sensor batteries.
Tamper vs Malfunction
A sensor can show Tamper or Malfunction and have the same issue. The #1 culprit of this is a customer changing batteries and not putting the sensor back together properly. For all of the new Smoke, Co2s, and Glass breaks we install will have 'notches' on them. On the plate mounted to the ceiling and the actual device itself. Those notches MUST line up or the system will continue to report an issue which will cause the panel to beep. Have the customer check to ensure that the notches do line up. This will resolve the issue about 80-90% of the time but you will need to give the system time to catch up to the fix. Sometimes the panel will respond in seconds to the device but it can also take a few minutes. Ask the customer if it would be okay with them for you to do a "Hard Reset" on the system to get an accurate read on the system to ensure that everything is up and running as it should.
You will then perform a panel reset and call the customer back with updates. If there are still issues we may need to send out a tech to fix the issue.
